I went home last night with a really bad flu, I was hoping to get an evening run, but I was too ill to do so.
This morning wasn't so different, although I felt a lot better already. Hoping I do better tonight so I can run tomorrow morning, and burn off what I stuffed my face with today:
Maggi Rich Mami Noodles (2 pouches) for breakfast.
Bulalo Bowl and 1 Cup of rice for Lunch
Fried Noodles and Shawarma Rice for uhmmm. Meriendinner (?)
and a cup of Ice Cream for dessert.
Yup. I have flu.
Nice.

HOSTAGE
I'll make my fitness update quick. As of now, I'm watching the news, some hostage taking going on.
I woke up 7am, too late for me to drive to the oval so I dressed up and ran-walk for 30mins around the block.
I got back to the office really late, from a meeting with the buyer. I was still planning to squeeze in an evening run in the coastal line but I found myself watching tv when I found out about the hostage taking. The suspect allegedly killed all his hostages already.
This is now getting very very crazy.
Too shocked to write.

Gangster
So yesterday I planned on punishing myself by literally trying to kill myself with a workout plan that involved:
4 kilometers walking,
4 kilometers run-walk (run 200m, walk 200m, 10 rounds)
4 kilometers walking,
Swimming as many laps in 20 mins.
I was on my 9th round in the oval (3.6km est walk) when it started to rain.
FML. Yup.
So then I rushed back to my house and did what I haven't done in a while: do pushups.
I couldn't (yeah I'm a sissy) do the regular ones so I did elevated ones, my hands on the bed. I did 6 rounds of 10 reps each.
And then I took a bath and watched My Sister's Keeper. Real gangster right?
This morning I set the alarm to 5am, hoping to get another shot at my self-punishment.
I woke up at 710am.
FML.
I quickly dressed up, sans hilamos and toothbrush (yeah gross) and did another run-walk for 30 mins, just around the block.
It's not at all bad, considering I've been stagnant the past few months. I'm hoping to do another one this afternoon or evening, at least 30mins.
Gangster.

Punishment - August 22, 2010
Why, hello.
Greetings to you, my imaginary readers!
It's been a while (I say this too often) since my last post. And yes, it's because I don't get any exercise. None at all.
I woke up at 9am today, despite my planned early (430am) coastal line run. It's now 254pm on my timepiece and I haven't had the chance to sweat (save for a few teaspoons shed while eating in a very hot NCCC Palawan food strip earlier today.)
As of 254pm today, I've stuffed my face with the following:
Fried Noodles and Shawarma Rice (my usual combo and personal NCCC Palawan favorite - found in the food strip.
A hamburger sandwich. - The patty was so thin you'd think it was ham. Or wet cardboard to be more accurate in appearance and taste.
A grande Melon Zagu with extra pearl. Yeah.
So, after stuffing myself with that, I find guilt. Feel bloated. Feel filthy. Like a black dude raped me. (okay, maybe not that dirty).
So I'm now decided. This is an afternoon of punishment. I will:
Walk 1 hour.
Run-walk 45 minutes.
Swim 30 minutes. If the coach allows me.
Dear God help me today.
Will write about this tomorrow.
Ciao.

Trina: It's your fault I'm fat.
I don't get to write any running or swimming or jogging or hiking or riding anymore.
That's cause I don't get to anymore.
I am back to being 178lbs, when I'm only supposed to be 145lbs.
Anyway.
Trina figured it was a great time to meet up with me since we didn't see each other yesterday, but she had to do something for work (on a Sunday, yes.) early today so I suggested I was going to Eastwood early to camp out for Inception tickets, since we both heard people found it difficult to 1) Line up 2) Get tickets.
I anticipated some traffic in C5 and some line in Eastwood parking, but failed both assumptions so I ended up being extra early. Maintenance were still mopping floors and fixing stuff when I entered the mall.
I got hungry walking from parking to the old(er) Eastwood mall, so I decided I'd go to UCC to have breakfast. There weren't too many people too, inside.
UCC Eastwood.
I was craving for some tapa so I ordered the breakfast medley:
Breakfast Medley.
Garlic Rice, some cucumber-tomatoe-lettuce salad, scrambled eggs, tocino, tapa and sausage. I particularly liked sausage, since it hardly contained litid or extenders. It was pretty meaty. The rest of the meal was okay, amusing to say the least, but definitely on the pricey-for what it's worth-side. I could have had a better meal for 1/5 the price somewhere else. Anyway they made up for it through good service, the clean place, and the free wifi. (I believe wifi should be a legal right, just like what they did in Finland. No more fees to connect to the world!)
I waited for what was like 15 or 20 minutes before I realized it was still too early, since the ticket booth opened at 11 and it was 950am. I got up after paying and walked to the nearest Globe center to inquire for blackberry services for my BB. I hate having to talk to "customer service representatives" who don't know how to explain services to consumers. Either that or I was just too stupid to understand. Hahah. Anyway. Good job Globe CustCare. Keep it up and you'll lose half of your subs.
Anyway so I wasted a lot of time talking to Globe reps, walking around the mall sans the aircon, checking twitter and fb mobile, and a lot of other useless shit I did that it was finally 1110 and the ticket booth was now open. I got tickets for Inception (finally after 3 weeks).
It was around that time too when Trina got to Eastwood saying she was hungry, and that she wanted Teriyaki Boy.
My beautiful date.
I let Trina order since she was the one who pushed for Teriyaki Boy. We ended up with the following:
California Maki
Kamameshi Rice and Teriyaki Boy Chicken
5pcs Ebi Tempura.
I wanted to describe the whole experience of having everything but I couldn't write anything, since it was not bad, and not very good. Just normal, although I found the rice too salty for my taste. Trina loved the rice though. The rest, so so. If you didn't have Teriyaki Boy today, or any time in the past 6 months, you're okay. You're not missing anything fantastic.
We walked to Red Mango for dessert since Trina's been bugging me to try it. I'm biased towards Qoolah for Frozen Yogurt (maybe because of the personal touch) but it was time I tried something else. Red Mango, is a worthy competitor. (Although I still love Qoolah)
Pressing me to choose since she wanted to pay. Nice.
And since she was paying, I order Large. Put graham crackers, M&M Minis (no smarties eh.) and Some mangoes on mine. Trina had the small cup, some chocolate powerd and mangoes.
We then drove off to Valle Country Club for Mass and some Sunday worship to feed our hungry souls.
Naks. After we drove back to Eastwood. Double parking pay. That's how we rich people roll. Hahaha.
So yeah, it was finally time to watch Inception and see what the buzz was all about. Before entering the cinema, we passed by the food stalls to grab snacks. (because I am fat, I am always hungry. deal with it.)
New York Fries D___?
I also ordered my favorite Strawberry Banana drink from Big Chill!
Hindi ako yan. Payat yan e.
Trina was craving for corndog so she went to Nacho Fast.
Intensely waiting for the corndawwg.
Large Fries + Pesto, Barbecue, Wasabi dips and my Strawberry Banana Drink.
I love this. If you haven't tried, then you should. I won't write about it. But I will tell you I finished one in 5 minutes, and had to go back to NYFD to get another Large bucket for the cinema.
Trina finished this even before we walked inside the cinema.
Anyway, as you can see, it's Trina's fault I'm fat.
It's now 23:12 and I'm now hungry again.
To the fridge!

Breakfast and Lunch: June 25, 2010
Got up really early, (well at 730am) today to prepare for a land trip to Narra Town, Palawan. It's a two hour drive from PPS, mind you, we're in a land where outside the city 4wheeled vehicles are a scarcity, no traffic at all.
2 Hours is a lloooooonnng drive.
I arrived in the office a bit earlier, and I didn't have breakfast yet. Good thing Manong Taho was there, so I bought everyone (22 plastic baso) of Taho. I had two, for breakfast. That's my source of energy for this morning (and source of gout in the future).
Drove up to Narra ang got here a few minutes earlier. We set-up the place for the small event. In the background I heard crackling of what I thought was cooking oil.
"Ano yun?"
"Crispy pata ser. Kumakain ka nun?"
"...."
So this was lunch for me: Crispy pata (really crispy skin, and chewy meat), Sinigang na isda (dunno what kind) Fried native chicken, and chopsuey.
I love the barrio.
Check it:

Check it:
Lunch for 8 people.
The native fried chicken was great. The skin was manipis, the meat tasty and twas perfect with the Jufran Banana Ketchup. Very similar to Max's! The sinigang was okay, not so, but I always love really reall hot soup, and they said it was cooked in uling ang palayok. The meat literally separated from the bone when you pressed it with the sandok. The chopsuey was okay, I hate synthetic food in real food (squid balls messed it up).
The crispy pata. Man. Like nothing I've ever tasted. I fucking love barrio food. Really crispy, the skin. The meat was extra chewy, but it came off the bone like it wasn't attached to it it's whole life. They also made suka-toyo sauce, but included little red dynamites (labuyo), some sukang pinakadyot, (tuba) a lot of calamansi. You'd think it was separate ulam, dude. Pare. Tsong.
Anyway so that was lunch. I had 2 cups of rice, a lot of crispy pata and some sinigang and chicken. Also had a bit of the chopsuey.
Hmmm... Around 3 hours of hard cardio later. As if.
Ciao.

Tuesday Wednesday Thursday
So I think I'm running again. Hopefully I sustain this. And prove that this is a fitness blog first, food blog occassionally. And not the fucking other way around.
TUESDAY
Tuesday I left the office a bit later than usual, around 645. It was summer solstice, they said. Well it looked like it too 'cause there was still some sunlight left, a bit of clouds. Nice sight actually, a mix of grey, light blue, orange and black when you look at the sky.
Anyway I got home and put on my running attire - again, running shoes, black socks from work, shorts from work and my vneck undershirt. Hahaha.
This time though, I did a bit more walking since my legs and quads felt really stiff. I walked 6 rounds of the oval, around 2.4kms, and then started my run-as-fast-as-you-can 200m and walk-easy 200m. By the 3rd round I felt like giving up but I kept telling myself I had to at least surpass my 5 run-walk round Monday.
By the 4th round I was literally out of breath and was just pushing myself to brisk walk the last 10m. The 200m "rest" was a welcome break from my smoker's lungs too.
5th round. I realized half way that I wasn't breathing right. Breathe in through the nose, breathe out through the mouth.
I finished. It wasn't easier physically, but I actually felt the difference in my lungs. Suddenly I didn't feel like fainting in the last 5m of the run part.
Sixth. Seventh.
Seven rounds. Finished it. It was one of those "success!" moments. I was alone but I had this smirk on my face not even Brock could wipe off.
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday was very different though, as I had guests from Manila doing some audit for some category in the accounts in PPS.
I initially wanted to run (and actually did go home early) but I realized I was being a bad host so I went back to pick him up and went to Kinabuch to grab a bite. A lot. Hahaha. We had beef salpicao, pinaputok na samaral, green mango salad, and some woodworm or tamilok. I had 2 cups of rice.
THURSDAY
Today was a looooong day for me at work. I couldn't detail stuff here but you know how stressful things can be. I got home around 6.30 so I dressed up - this time in board shorts, a bastketball jersey, quarter socks and my running shoes. I decided also to walk all the way from my house to the oval, the distance of which I couldn't determine as of the moment, but took me 35mins to walk.
I did 9 rounds of run-as-fast-as-you-can 200m and walk-easy 200m. I was breathing in through my nose, and out through my mouth.
I'm finally getting it!
On the way home though my legs were really tired, but alas, I had no money on me. I HAD TO WALK BACK TO MY HOUSE again.
I got here and guess what I have no food in the fridge!
Forced exercise, forced diet.
I really hope this works.

Running again
Today was pretty much a different Monday for me, because I spent the weekend here in Palawan, and I did all my admin work here in the distributor, instead of in Batino, Laguna. It felt good being near my area actually, and I'm kind of leaning towards doing this every other week.
Anyway, yesterday Sunday, I spent four (4) hours cleaning my house. I practically cleaned every corner I could get my hands on! Felt weird too, that the next day, my body ached! It was probably because of the sedentary lifestyle my body got used to.
So anyway, today was pretty okay si I had the chance to run again. Sometime after 5pm, I checked outside and saw that it was still a bit sunny, considering it has not stopped raining here.
Anway, so I got home around 545pm since i live practically 5mins away from my office here in Palawan. I dressed up, in the most baduy running attire ever: Vneck undershirt, basketball shirt, black socks and white running shoes. Para akong lolo. hahaha.
I started off walking the oval, timing my round at the same time. Glad to note that I still walk at the same pace! 5 minutes for 400m. I did about 4 rounds of walking for warm-up, total of 1.6km.
After walking, I did a bit of stretching, and then started my run-walk routine again. This time I wasn't too conscious of the time, but the distance. Run 200m, walk 200m. That's a round.
And a round that fucking was. I quickly felt my ginormous quads heating up like fresh buns from an oven. My left ankle too, felt funny. I was glad I finished that first round. Nine more to go.
The second was pretty much like the first, although I distinctly remember panting like a duck who just got laid. Very happy I was walking the other 200m.
2 rounds.
Third round. I felt I slowed down significantly, because I was breathing really heavy. It was crazy too, since it looked like someone threw a whole pitcher of water on my head down to my naked vneck'd breasts.
3 rounds.
The 4th round was a bitch. The last 10 meters was fucking crazy. I couldn't run because I couldn't breathe anymore. My quads were really tired, and I felt my lower back started to ache. (if anyone at all is reading this, and if you know what I am doing wrong, please send me an email. rmatignas@gmail.com subject: running like a bitch).
I told myself that was the last round though. But getting near my starting point I felt like I owed it to my future wife and kids to stay alive and not die of any heart attack anytime soon. I pushed myself one last time even though every strand of hair was saying no.
5 rounds.
I ran.
I ran 2 kilometers today, and walked 3.6 kilometers.
Pussy. Yes.
But a great (re) start nonetheless.
Finally running again.

Very Hungry Tuesday
June 15, 2010
Dude. I'm so hungry right now. Seriously. I didn't realize losing weight was this difficult.
Today I got on the weighing scale. 80kgs. That's 176 lbs.
I really hope I'm doing this right.
...
BREAKFAST
For breakfast I had chicken afritada. Two pcs chicken wings, several slices of potato and bits of carrot. That was it. No picture though. Forgot to take them. Shoot me.
LUNCH
For lunch the team drove off to Mamplasan Shell because they wanted Tokyo Tokyo. That was difficult because I always want Katsudon from Tokyo Tokyo but as I said, I'm veering away from pork, beef, and processed meat!
So I had the mixed seafood tempura. Still deep fried, but what the heck.

I shit you not I had half of the rice.
So that was it. I finished all of the tempura but had half of the rice. But it was torture watching all of them enjoy their beef misonos, and bean sprouts, and the eat all you kan-in!
I went home for dinner. Good thing my mom was cooperating. She cooked stuff she said would help me with my diet. Hahahaha.
Sweet and sour tofu!
Boiled baby potatoes, baby tomatoes, olive oil. Don't worry this was the whole bowl. I had 6 pieces I think!
This is really difficult. I am now staring at a can of Spam.
Wish me luck.

The Weekend (June 12-14)
So it's the last day of the long weekend today, and I'm here in Pancake House Eastwood waiting for my food to arrive.
As always and needless to say my so-called diet was ruined by Trina. I really blame her for my obesity.
Capped off the workweek last week flying business-class to make it to my man Carlo's bash in Metrowalk. We had a few drinks with batchmates in Uncle Moe's. I had 4 bottles of SML I think. Highlight of the night though was a Sentra Slamming into a stalled M5 in Julia Vargas. The Sentra driver was drunk I think. I'm really leaning towards saying it was really awesome, but that would be mean.
Anyway, here's a snapshot of it, from my camera phone. I rarely bring my lumix now since I vowed to get back into film photography.
Anyway check it:
The place is kind of popular in BF. Maybe because of good food and affordable prices. Or maybe just affordable "so-so" food. (Leaning towards the second, although I haven't had the chance to try other dishes.
So I was avoiding beef and pork and processed food, so I had the chicken Shawarma:

We could tell it was pretty fucked up because there was no tire-screeching. Plus the Sentra's windshield bubbled up infront. We were wondering if the driver's head hit it. But we couldn't confirm. Hope he's okay.
...
So on Saturday, Trina and I had to drop off cookware in her Tita's clinic in BF and had lunch in the nearby burger place Gourmet.
So I was avoiding beef and pork and processed food, so I had the chicken Shawarma:
Nope. Not so. It was okay though. But not something I'd look forward to eating again. Plus the garlic sauce was not-so.
Trina had the T-Bone steak. I only had a bit of java rice so I couldn't tell you how it was. Drop by soon?
After tasting the rice, I figured I had to have rice too. I managed to avoid it for several days so I felt like "cheating" was okay. I ordered Takaw Chicken Rice.
It was okay. Greasy. Normal.
Gourmet? I give it 6 stars. Or 5.5. Or whatever.
...
For dinner, we went to my Tita's house for my grandma's 120th birthday. Okay i'm kidding. I'm not sure how old she is. But she's stronger than a bull on red bull.
There was lechon. So I had some. No pork and beef? Yup. But lechon is excluded from that rule.
It's nothing close to General's Lechon, which my friend Bry Ong owns. Anyway, I had my lechon fix so that was that. Had the rest of the food in the buffet table, which I forgot to take pictures of.
...
The next day I had brunch at Trina's house. Forgot to take pictures, but I think we had some lumpia, and some sinigang na salmon.
We had merienda in Kenny Rogers in Galleria. I had this. I don't know what it's called though.
Rob and I had fruit shake in Fresh Bar right after. I had the usual Straberry Banana. Jumbo. Kasi diet ako.
...
Okay so it wasn't actually the weekend I expected. Well at least not for the diet I wanted. But I'm not complaining.
I capped off the weekend with brunch with Trina's chicks in Pancake House.
Incomplete! Sorry Pat.
There. Trina and I shared brunch, had Pancake House spaghetti (who goes to pancake house and doesn't have the spaghetti???) and that chicken, salad and waffle dish. The chicken was great, although It could be juicer!
Physical fitness? Uhhm. No activity. Sorry.
